What is lacrosse?

Lacrosse is a fast-paced team sport played with a stick (called a crosse) and a ball. The goal is to pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the opponent’s net while playing strong team defense.

Do I need experience to join a team?

Nope! Many players start with zero experience. Coaches expect beginners and will teach you everything you need to know.

What positions can I play?

• Attack: Scores goals
• Midfield: Runs the field, plays offense and defense
• Defense: Stops the other team from scoring
• Goalie: Guards the net

New players often start at midfield to learn all aspects of the game.

What equipment do I need?

• Lacrosse stick (crosse)
• Mouthguard
• Cleats or turf shoes
• Helmet
• Shoulder pads
• Arm pads
• Gloves
• Protective cup (recommended)

How do I choose the right stick?

• Age & position matter (attack, midfield, defense, goalie)
• Beginners should start with a complete, pre-strung stick
• Don’t buy an advanced stick right away—simple and legal is best

What should I work on as a beginner?

Focus on the basics:
• Throwing and catching
• Cradling
• Ground balls
• Conditioning (running matters!)
• Listening to coaches and learning the rules

How often should I practice on my own?

Even 10–15 minutes a day helps:
• Wall ball (throwing and catching against a wall)
• Cradling while moving
• Scooping ground balls

Any advice for first-time players?

• Don’t be afraid to make mistakes
• Ask questions
• Hustle on every play
• Have fun—lacrosse is meant to be exciting

Everyone starts somewhere. 🥍
